Banks

Triodos Bank

Deanery Rd, Bristol BS1 5AS, UK – 0330 355 0355

I'm sure I don't have enough money to really make any impact by using an ethical bank like Triodos, but their banking services are good enough to warrant using regardless. Current account app is very reliable and easy to use. Online banking is very comprehensive. There are lots of little things, like how the account handles a low balance and sends alerts, that are better implemented than some other big banks. I have no reservations about this company.

Where you're money is really matters and with Triodos I have the confidence of saying it is going where it is doing the best it can.

Dental Surgeries

Queen Square Dental Clinic

17 Queen Square, Bristol BS1 4NH, UK – 0117 927 2797

I've had a lot of dental work - it only takes one ski in a mouth! Over 40+ years there have been two outstanding dentists - one in La Jolla, California (a lady who's now retired) and the other is Alfonso. 100% recommended. Quick update (April '18): I'd also add Emily the (new to me) dental hygienist - exceptionally skilled. There are many things in life where second best is good enough... not dentistry - pay for excellence every time! The team here are truly exceptional.

I was made to feel so welcome it was as if I'd known these beautiful people for years. Their kind, warm and very calm welcome seems to rub off on you making you feel at ease and not at all nervous . Probably the best dental clinic in the country. I would highly recommend it to anyone A Carruthers

High Street Dental Clinic

44 High St, Bristol BS1 2AZ, UK – 0117 926 0265

Have had numerous treatments here and have to say that the quality and care from this clinic is exceptional. The staff here are super friendly and I would highly recommend coming here!

Very professional, efficient and helpful. I was experiencing pain, these guys did a great job or sorting me out before my holiday! Thanks again!

Clare Street Dental Centre

16-24 Clare St, Bristol BS1 1YA, UK – 0117 927 5890

Excellent treatment from start to finish for a wisdom tooth extraction, and a calming presence throughout for a very nervous customer. Would thoroughly recommend.

Really lovely staff and great advice and eduction about how to keep My Teeth healthy in between visits

Dr Sarah Colthurst

67 Coronation Rd, Bristol BS3 1AS, UK – 0117 966 9724

I'd recommend Dr Hendley and Dr Adams at this surgery. They are both ask questions to help you get to the bottom of the issue and give useful advice about how to proceed, signpost to other services when necessary and give clear information about the symptoms you need to be aware of that may require require further visits. I've felt very safe in their hands and would say they are excellent GPs. I agree with other reviews in some respect and wouldn't recommend every GP at this practice.

Just moved to the area and registered here - very helpful and would recommend them

Dr J M Ewen

233 Wells Rd, Bristol BS4 2DF, UK – 0117 977 0018

Crest Family Practice William Budd Health Centre

Knowle West Health Park, Downton Rd, Bristol BS4 1WH, UK – 0117 944 9700

I transferred from St Martin's and found this practice to be very good my experiences with reception staff is that they have always been very friendly and helpful . They always call back as promised . I have never had a problem .thank you to all staff including the Doctors I have seen.

Nice Doctor, pleasant staff was seen quickly and given excellent service. Clearly people are quick to give bad reviews but not stopping to give good ones.... way of the world I suppose.

NHS Direct is now NHS 24. Just dial 111 to speak to a professional or click the link below for there self help website. Lots of really useful info but keep clear of heart surgery! If in doubt ask your GP or call 111. Good luck.

Outstanding amount of effort

St Michael's Hospital

Southwell St, Bristol BS2 8EG, UK – 0117 342 5325

Gave birth here twice. Two very different but complicated births. First time wasn't such a positive experience but the second time there seemed to be alot more support even though it was busier. I was a little disappointed about the lack of information about what happens next once I was on the ward. It all seemed very rushed.

I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for a few people who work tirelessly here and the BRI thanks big time

Nuffield Health Bristol, The Chesterfield Hospital

3 Clifton Hill, Clifton, Bristol BS8 1BN, UK – 0117 906 4870

Had knee op. Utterly brilliant facility. If I was going to design a hospital it would be like this ! Everthing I need is planned for and provided. Feel confident about rest of stay here. Staff helpful and cheerful , nothing too much trouble. Professional and attentive.

Went for a few teeth fillings yesterday. Happy so far with the work done. The staff and the dentist were friendly and helpful. They helped me get my X-rays as well from another dentist I went to earlier. Only downside is it's a bit expensive. But will recommend to others.

Find Local Churches & Places of Worship

St Mary Redcliffe Church

The Parish Office, 12 Colston Parade, Redcliffe, Bristol BS1 6RA, UK – 0117 231 0060

Gorgeous gothic church in Redcliffe area, it places nice contrast with modern buildings in the area. Nice place to go visit however it is a bit further from center or triangle but it's nearby to Queen's square and waterside which has lot to offer as well.

St. Mary Redcliffe is an Anglican parish church located in the Redcliffe district of Bristol, The church is known for the beauty of its Gothic architecture and is classed as a Grade I listed building by Historic England. It is more like a great cathedral than a Parish Church. The impressive Spire is 292 feet tall. Besides the impressive Gothic Styling, the stained glass is lovely as are the ceilings. The nave of St Mary Redcliffe is exceptional with its perfectly proportioned arches. There is a café in the undercroft. If you like architecture and Art or just want a quiet reflective place then this is for you.

St Stephen's Church

21 St Stephen's St, Bristol BS1 1EQ, UK – 0117 927 7977

Loved the church so beautiful and the cafe was nice staff were lovely and very nice food

We got married in St Stephens Church on 5th September 2015. it is the most special church that we've ever been in. Whilst we were required to attend the church for 6 months leading up to the wedding as we didn't live in the parish, we found ourselves visiting more often as we enjoyed it so much. Whilst we always had an underlying belief, we were in no way religious before meeting the Reverend, Lee, at St. Stephens. We were made to feel welcome immediately and with every single service that we attended, found that it left us with profound thoughts after Lee had managed to make the bible relevant and applicable to our modern day lives. It provided a great pillar of strength to me in a tough time in my life and for that I will be forever grateful. The church is beautiful, inside and out, but the real beauty comes from it's congregation, all of whom play a very special part in one of the best communities that I've ever experienced. When it came to the actual service, ALL of our guests said that it was the most touching and personal service that they'd been to. Everybody enjoyed it and said that it was refreshingly relevant. Never preached to, ideas are welcomed but the faith remains an underlying important aspect of every part of each service. I lost count of the number of people who said that they'd go to church more if it was like St Stephens. I cannot recommend the church highly enough. We will continue to visit St Stephens whenever we return to Bristol. It's an incredibly special church and Lee is a very special person. Both will always have a very large place in our hearts.

Bristol Wood Recycling Project

4, William St, Bristol BS2 0RG, UK – 0117 972 3219

Fantastic new site for BWRP. With the developments currently underway, it will only make it an even greater customer experience. Which is a challenge, as it is already a friendly, ethically sound place to buy wood. I look forward to seeing the improvements soon, as it is a regular place for me to visit, and see what is available.

fantastic bunch. So good to find a business with such a perfect mix of real values, integrity and business sense - all working to solve a big problem we have in western society. Keep it up guys!

Collecteco

Easton Business Centre, Felix Rd, Bristol BS5 0HE, UK – 0117 244 3777

A fantastic business keeping useful business items from landfill, re-using via various charitable trusts throughout the UK and beyond, great company to work with, keep up the great work Steve!

Brilliant company, upcycling and recycling old office furniture, Steve is really helpful , nothing is a problem

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Bristol

Filini Restaurant

Broad Quay, Bristol BS1 4BY, UK – 0117 934 9500

The food is ok. Arrived at 7.30pm and the waiter said they had no steak or pork belly which I thought was unusual for a restaurant that's just opened. The lamb cutlets an swordfish were ok. Wine was nice and service good

I'm guessing not many people would choose to dine in a hotel restaurant over anywhere else...but Filini's worth a punt. They often appear on the deals websites too, so keep an eye out for special offers. It's an Italian restaurant with a number of Sardinian specialities, which gives the menu a different edge to many others in the city. You have a great view over the city centre if you're lucky enough to get a window seat, but it really does feel like a hotel restaurant inside. Be warned: if you order the pizza, I'd advise avoiding having a starter (unless you're really hungry!) as they're enormous! Try the Filini Taster Pizza if you do: it gives you the chance to sample four of their different pizzas on one, with each topping taking up a quarter of the pizza. The tiramisu is also fantastic, and they offer a range of starters - including sharing antipasti boards - to complete your meal. Worth a punt.

COSMO Bristol

30 Triangle W, Bristol BS8 1ET, UK – 0117 934 0999

Nothing to complain about here. Really tasty, quality food with a huge selection of dishes. You can also order prawns, scallops and steak cooked in front of you to perfection. Eat as much as you like but there is a time limit for seating, I think an hour or so which is plenty of time and it never feels rushed. It's always busy so best to book.

We were on a girls night out on a Friday night. At the door we were greeted by a really friendly and funny man, who accompanied us to the waiting room as one of us was late. Then we were guided to our table. They had a good variety of food , deserts and drinks. The place Seems to be clean and friendly and approachable staff team. I will definitely return. They have really good price as well.

Harvey Nichols Second Floor Restaurant And Bar

27 Philadelphia Street, Quakers Friars, Bristol BS1 3BZ, UK – 0117 916 8898

They place is very simple. The products are very expensive but the decor was plain, just white, glass shelves and silver railing.

Fantastic food and an unbelievable bar. I'd give it 6 stars but alas only 5 stars available.

Nursery and Preschools

Christ Church Clifton Pre School

The Crypt, Christ Church, St Brendas Court, Clifton Park, Bristol BS8 3BN, UK – 0117 325 1214

My twin girls were at Christ Church Preschool for two years until July 2015. They thrived in the warm, loving and supportive environment. I watched with joy as they would run into play; their speaking developed, their social interaction skills grew and they became confident little people. The team are wonderful and all work so hard. The recently added new red toilets, the garden at the back and the weekly forest school adventures all added to the fun. I cannot recommend the preschool more highly.

We moved from Cornwall to Clifton in April 2014 and the team at Christchurch Preschool provided so much support and community spirit in helping us settle in. They managed to accommodate our twin girls and the girls were so happy in their learning and playing. They quickly made new friends and the move was made so much easier thanks to the wonderful nurturing nature of the staff. The forest school sessions were a great asset to the preschool and with its own little garden the staff make the setting a fun and happy place to be.

Mama Bear's Day Nursery and Pre-school, Oakfield Road, Clifton

17 Oakfield Rd, Bristol BS8 2AW, UK – 0117 974 2929

Our little boy attends Mama Bears Oakfield Road and we couldn't be happier with this nursery. The team are fantastic, very caring and nurturing, imaginative and huge fans of messy play (which is great as a parent who does not enjoy messy play at home). The nursery offers wonderful outdoor space which they use all year round, a ball pool room, sensory spaces as well as individual rooms for different age groups. Our son has flourished in this environment and loves being part of this nursery community.

My daughter likes a lot this place because she met quite a lot new friends. The staff is polite and gentle with the kids and during the week I feel safe about my little princess. When I pick her after work she has hard time leaving. And if you could have seen her in the beginning - she was crying not to leave her there! Definitely a child friendly place.

Magic Roundabout Nursery Ltd

141 Coronation Rd, Bristol BS3 1RE, UK – 0117 963 9800

This nursery fantastic. The ladies there are so supportive and go out of their way to put you at ease. They feel like part of the family. They put in a lot of effort doing imaginative activities. It's convenient for drop off, it has its own car park to the rear, I would drop my daughter off and be at work in the centre within 10 minutes. I would pick my daughter up at 3:30pm which was their tea-time her key worker arranged my little ones tea to take home and give her because the kitchen had made it anyway, it saved me a chore which I really appreciated on stressful days.

Lovely staff so helpful would highly recommend

i go to this school

pretty good

St Bernadette Catholic Secondary School

Fossedale Avenue, Bristol BS14 9LS, UK – 0117 377 2050

Definitely enjoyed my time here especially in years 10 and 11 (2015-2017) and the GCSE's were so much fun! The Library is the place to be at break and lunchtime where you can feel free to play games on the computers. Try to get a chair other than the small blue ones maybe the black chairs or bigger blue ones. I unfortunately don't know what the food tastes like as I never had any but as I started to advance through from year 7 to 11 the waiting line for snacks seemed to get lower and lower. The teaching is good however if I was in a different math class with an actually good teacher I would not have to be retaking. As a result of some poor teaching in certain classes the students refuse to do any work and act in a stupid manner. The grounds are pretty disgusting however especially on the higher year's fields. We even had to have a 'litter clean up week' to sort it out. The charity week in year 9 was pretty enjoyable and successful too. Year 11 was an amazing year, whilst year 8 was the worst.

I think it is pretty great for some of the pupils they have to deal with. Disabled and SEN kids are always welcome there, even when it is too much for the staff. It takes on students from every where in Bristol, but seems to get nothing for it. They let in a lot of students that other schools would not because they are extremely optimistic. Love it.
