Mercure Bristol Holland House Hotel and Spa

Redcliffe Hill, Bristol BS1 6SQ, UK – 0117 319 9004

Modern, airy hotel with plenty of open space. The rooms are a good size with excellent air conditioning. Excellent bathrooms with bath and walk in shower. It seems most of the staff we met were new and undergoing training and getting used to the hotel themselves. However, all the staff we met were very willing and friendly. Will stay again.

Ideal location just 5 minutes walk from the restaurants and bars. Shopping not that far away either. The hotel is clean the breakfast was excellent £10 each our 8 year old granddaughter eat free and the staff are great we've stayed there twice this year and will definitely stay again.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Bristol City Centre

Redcliffe Way, Bristol BS1 6NJ, UK – 0117 926 0041

This was our first time staying here and we were really impressed. We stayed in a standard double room which was a great size and very well presented. We couldn't hear anyone else whilst staying in the room and never had to queue to use the lifts. We had breakfast at the hotel on our second morning which offered a lovely buffet style selection of hot and cold food served in a beautiful restaurant. All of the staff were really helpful and we'll use the same hotel next time we visit Bristol.

Only popped in to accompany my son to a meeting and wait to drive him home. Really nice atmosphere, very friendly staff. I had a coffee which was very good and priced about right for similar venues. Eager to help and offer a service and I wasn't even booked in. Good job, guys 😀

Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel

Broad St, Bristol BS1 2EL, UK – 0871 376 9042

Staff are amazing here. Friendly and helpful. Rooms are very comfortable with those little touches that seem to be missing from so many hotels - like plug sockets next to the bed and an iron in the room. Modern furnishings and a good bathroom with a nice selection of toiletries. Restaurant is a bit expensive but has a good selection and every meal I have had here has been delicious. Breakfast is good with a wide selection . Added bonus of an on site spa and pool. My first choice of hotel when in Bristol on business.

Service was decent and the staff worked very hard to help us. It's a 4 star hotel, but no minibar - and the extra bed took a while in coming. Bristol centre was slammed due to the Harbour festival, so overall a great effort. Family room is actually no bigger than a standard Premier Inn room - and the noise certainly carries. Don't plan to watch any sport in room, it's no frills TV. That said, greatest of locations, especially in the Sun and we appreciated the service. The spa / pool was cute, but a bit run down.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Clifton

16 Regent St, Bristol BS8 4HG, UK – 0117 974 1967

Nice pub , was too late for the Sunday roast , so we had Saugage and Mash. Fabulous. Clifton village was nice place , Victoria Square , The Bridge , the views over the gorge. If we had a spare million we'd buy a Town House there.😉

Fantastic pub serving a fantastic range of cask ales and ciders. I was in with my wife and we got talking to the shift manager Alex who was very friendly and gave us some recommendations.

The Mall

66 The Mall, Bristol BS8 4JG, UK – 0117 974 5318

Lovely pub. We came here as a group of 6 without booking for a Sunday lunch in the summer. The outdoor area is perfect for the nice weather. The food arrived quickly and was of a great standard. There’s a great selection of drinks here as well. Highly recommended. Would definitely go here again next time the I’m in Clifton!

Good quality pub with food and freindly atmosphere. This place is a lot bigger than it looks and has plenty of outside space too. A range of good beers and ales with decent British pub food and Sunday lunches. Kid and dog friendly. The Sunday lunches are very filling and use good quality ingredients. Well worth a visit if you're in Clifton village or suspension bridge.

63 Queen Square, Bristol BS1 4JZ, UK – 0117 927 6706

Food was really good (our table ordered the Pork Ribs, Beef Burger, Roast Pork and Steak). For the steak, you can reconsider ordering the sauce as it is a bit pricey and unnecessary in our opinion. The coffees were of a high standard and the dessert was very enjoyable. Good ambience and great for a hang-out with friends on a Sunday afternoon! Will be back!

I've heard great things about this place but I was not that impressed. The waiter seem a bit upset because we took a while to order. Then our food took more than one hour to arrive and we ordered a salad and a chicken burger!

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Clifton Short Lets

5 Westbourne Pl, Bristol BS8 1RZ, UK – 0117 923 7947

I stayed they for a couple of months while looking for more permanent accommodation having just got a job in Bristol. I stayed in two of the large rooms during my stay. Although they were slightly different shapes and had some different furniture, they were both very clean and a good size. The communal areas were also clean and well maintained considering the number of people using it. The self-check in was very convenient as I was arriving late on a Sunday and didn't have to worry about being late. I found all the staff were helpful and friendly when I needed to contact them. Overall It was a great place to stay and gave a great introduction to the city of Bristol with most of the major sights, good bars and restaurants within walking distance.

Clifton Short Lets is not a place for tourists. The larger rooms with kitchenettes are poorly equipped and the WiFi was slow to the point that it couldn’t be used. Me and my partner only stayed one night, out of the eight planned, due to what we believed to be mould. The first room we were given was located in the basement and had a distinct smell as well as poor facilities. For example, the window frame was rotting and draughty. Grease left on the kitchenette surfaces, as well as used review cards also indicated that the room hadn’t been looked at properly before our arrival. After being informed of these issues, a member of staff came down to have a look as well as offer a change of room. The new room had just been cleaned when we arrived which masked the smell we addressed in the previous room, it was soon noticeable again. We decided not to continue our stay at the Short Let due to these issues. However, the staff were friendly and beyond helpful. They did their very best to offer other solutions and after our departure they agreed to refund us for the remaining nights which was a nice surprise. If you’re looking for a temporary accommodation in Bristol, this is a good place for you but as a tourist I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

You can find excellent very well priced accommodation around Bristol using Airbnb!

We run an Airbnb bed and breakfast down in Devon (house below) - and we have stayed in Airbnb accommodation all over the place. You can find the wonderful little gems with totally committed hosts and really frightful places which you put down to experience! You absolutely have to read the details of each listing - and read the reviews! We have had people coming to East Quither Farm expecting to take over our whole house -  or our kitchen etc simply because they have not read the description. Basically use Airbnb wherever we go - but we do do our homework!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

The Washington Guesthouse

11-15 St Paul's Rd, Bristol BS8 1LX, UK – 0117 973 3980

Great value for good price in Clifton. The location is very convenient, in a walking distance to the city centre. The interior is a little bit dated but clean. The breakfast was good, freshly cooked, with friendly service.

I arrived very late in the night, reception was staffed and the staff was really nice. I liked my room and was very happy that it was en suite despite my booking saying it wasn't. This is my second stay and I can't fault it. Prices are reasonable too.

St Nicholas St, Bristol BS1 1UB, UK – 0117 930 0066

Brooks Guest House is very central and a good base for your visit to Bristol. The staff are very friendly and helpful, rooms are on the small side but perfectly OK. The place is very clean and well maintained. Be sure to have one of their freshly cooked breakfasts, they are delicious.

Excellent location for exploring Bristol. The most beautiful elevator I've ever seen! Room was comfy and as our room was out to the street we were offered earplugs. Breakfast was great and the staff very friendly and in good mood.

Clifton House

4 Tyndalls Park Rd, Bristol BS8 1PG, UK – 0117 973 5407

Lovely house to stay in, location was great with plenty of parking. Photos are of us about to depart, rooms are neat and clean when you first get there. Plenty of pillows and towels. There was a kettle and hair dryer which helped. The rooms are a good size. Breakfast was nice no issues there it was cooked great and very quickly too. Plenty of options. Would go again. Only thing I would raise is the windows had no protection for kids, meaning they could fall out and the bathroom door handle in our room needed to be replaced. Apart from that no problems and very much enjoyed it. I would stay here again. the staff were friendly and helpful. Thank you

Really nice place to stay. Room Perfect. ALL the things you need. With bonus of large room ,comfy bed, stunning bathroom. Lovely welcome when we arrived,Everyone of staff made our stay that little bit better. Breakfast more than enough. In short just an amazing place to stay when visiting Bristol. I will be staying there again if they are not full. We had last room but think it was the best in town. Thanks to everyone who had a part in making our stay so special. Peter U.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Campsites and Caravan Parks

Baltic Wharf Caravan And Motorhome Club Site

Cumberland Rd, Bristol BS1 6XG, UK – 0117 926 8030

Superb site, with easy access and excellent location, backing on to Baltic Wharf, the back gate opens up to a different world. Pub to the left, SS Great Britain to the right as well as trendy eateries further along. River passenger ferries run regularly into centre of Bristol. Site itself is gorgeous

Fab site. Up to it's usual standards in other words spotless. The council will be out of their minds if this site is forced to close. The business it must bring into Bristol. Also this weekend was the Water Festival. Great atmosphere. Will go again.

Colliters Brook Farm

Bridgwater Road, Dundry, Bristol BS41 8JS, UK – 07977 275952

Can't praise this place more. Left my car there while on holiday and there was an issue with my car unrelated to the car being there and Richard dealt with it so well I felt a bit humbled. Over and beyond is understatement.

Lovely place to have a wedding reception! Highly recommended.
